About ATELIER TOWA
Located in Los Angeles, Atelier Towa is the studio of Japanese calligrapher Aoi Yamaguchi. Born in Hokkaido, Aoi began her studies at age six under Master Zuiho Sato. A recipient of prestigious awards—including First Place from the Minister of Education—she was named a Master Calligraphy Student by the International Japanese Calligraphy Association at just fourteen.
After moving to the U.S. in 2004 to bridge cultures through art, she established Atelier Towa (アトリエ咏遠) in 2014. 咏遠 (Towa) represents "eternal poetry"—a reflection of Aoi’s mission to weave together the ancient depth of Shodo with contemporary expression. Following a decade of large-scale performances and bespoke commissions in the San Francisco Bay Area, she opened her current West Adams, Los Angeles studio in 2024. Through her studio, Aoi shares the beauty, depth, and infinite joy of calligraphy with a global audience.
